Why We Built PlaylistDock
Every founder story about a music tool says "we're artists too," and most of the time it barely shows in the product. For PlaylistDock, it's the whole reason the thing exists. Before this, getting a track in front of a real independent curator meant scattered Instagram DMs, submission platforms that charged a fee whether or not a curator even listened, and pitching services where "guaranteed feedback" really just meant a guaranteed payment. None of that told you anything true about whether your song actually fit somewhere - it just told you who was willing to take your money. We kept using Spotify for Artists for the editorial side (still worth doing, still free, still worth pitching every release through directly), but there was no honest, free equivalent for the independent-curator side. So PlaylistDock became that: a place where a track either fits a playlist or it doesn't, decided by a person who actually listens, with nothing changing hands either way.
That same logic runs the curator side too. Most tools built for playlist curators exist to sell them something or extract data from them; PlaylistDock exists because we've also been on that side of the inbox, wading through submissions with no organization and no idea whether a playlist was actually growing or quietly going stale. So curators get real tools here too - genuine Spotify-verified follower tracking, a freshness score, and free auto-generated promo graphics - not because it's a loss-leader for something else, but because a platform that only serves artists and treats curators as a resource to be mined isn't one we'd want to use ourselves either.
